That old saying ‘be careful what you wish for, you just might get it’ has once again, as it often does, hit liberalism right in the kiester. The left is always claiming to be about helping those less fortunate souls among us. It all sounds so noble and compassionate, until of course reality sets in. Yes, they’re a compassionate bunch as long it’s compassion without any sacrifice to themselves.
Take a look see at their sanctuary cities and states. They’re being flooded with illegals and they’re not happy about it. It was all fine and dandy to proclaim their sanctuary status just so long as they didn’t have to actually participate in taking care of the illegals.
Case in point is New York City and Mayor Eric Leroy Adams. His city is hurting under the strain of illegals pouring in from well, just about everywhere. Here’s some of what he had to say about it at a Town Hall meeting Wednesday evening.
“I don’t see an ending to this. I don’t see an ending to this. “This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City. We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month. One time we were just getting Venezuela. Now we getting Ecuador. Now we getting Russian-speaking coming through Mexico. Now we’re getting western Africa. Now we getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and coming into New York City. And everyone is saying it’s New York City’s problem.”
“How many of you organized to stop what they’re doing to us? How many of you were part of the movement to say, we’ve seen what this mayor is trying to do and they destroyed New York City?”
“It’s gonna come to your neighborhoods. All of us are going to be impacted by this. I said it last year when we had 15,000. I’m telling you now with 110,000. The city we knew, we’re about to lose. And we’re all in this together. All of us. Staten Island is saying, ‘send them out to Manhattan,’ Manhattan is saying, ‘send them out to Queens,’ Queens is saying, ‘send them out to Brooklyn.’”
Of course when he was campaigning for the mayor’s job he was singing a different tune as evidence by the following tweet:
My oh my how things have changed now that reality has set in. Everything was hunky-dory in the utopia of New York City’s sanctuary for ‘undocumented immigrants’ until some border states started busing those helpless souls north. Suddenly the very folks who were boasting about their compassion and their created sanctuary now want nothing to do with ‘those people’.
It was all fine to boast about compassion as long as somebody else was forced to deal with the problem. So what can Mayor Adams and New York City do? Perhaps they can turn to another sanctuary haven like say New Jersey? Afterall current New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy campaigned on making his state a sanctuary saying at the time “We’ll be a sanctuary – not just city – but state.”
Whoopsie, not so fast Mr Mayor and New York City. In a recent appearance on News 12 New Jersey the governor said the following:
“I don’t see any scenario where we’re gonna be able to take in a program in Atlantic City or, frankly, elsewhere in the state. We are already seeing folks in New Jersey that have probably swelled into New Jersey from New York or other locations, but you need scale, an enormous amount of federal support, resources that go beyond anything we can afford.”
“Putting everything else aside, I just don’t see it. I would suspect that’ll continue to be the case.”
I’ve got to admit that at first I thought the busing of the illegals north as nothing more than kabuki theatrics. Seemed at best to be just a political stunt, kinda like meaningless defunding votes or censorship votes you get from Captial Hill all the time. Turns out I was wrong, and happy to admit it. It’s fun watching their heads explode over this.
